Every time SEO veteran and workshop presenter Bruce Clay has been at a conference in the past two years, people want to talk about Penguin. It seems like everyone’s anxiously awaiting the Penguin update, thinking it’s going to be the Hail Mary that restores their sites back to their former traffic and revenue. Not to burst any bubbles, but we’ve got to adjust our expectations, folks — the Penguin update is not going to magically boost rankings.
Bruce believes more sites will suffer when the Penguin update hits. Unless you aggressively pruned links, submitted a disavowal file, and then deliberately took the next step of boosting the relevance and value of your site overall, the Penguin update is unlikely to bring you a significant rise (if any) in ranking or traffic. In fact … your ranking may fall.
Join Bruce Clay at his SEO Training workshop on Sept. 26 at SMX East. He’ll talk about Penguin and much more. The SEO Training takes a deep dive into SEO methodology. It’s not bogged down with tools, but packed with strategy he’s amassed after more than 20 years in this business. It teaches you what you need to do and why it matters.
If you’re a seasoned SEO, it’s going to make you think differently about your job and how to achieve results. If you’re a marketing manager or executive responsible for digital marketing, it’s going to teach you what you need to know in order to plan and implement an SEO program.
