Why should I attend?

Who is responsible for the SMX East content?


SMX East is programmed by the editors of Search Engine Land, the website that search marketers trust to deliver decision-informing news and thought-provoking analysis. Content development for SMX is led by VP of Event Editorial Chris Sherman.

What are the dates of SMX East 2018?

The conference runs October 24-25, 2018.

The SMX Expo Hall is open October 24-25, 2018.

Pre-conference workshops will be held Tuesday, October 23 at the Javits Convention Center.

The SMX “Meet & Greet” opening reception is also on Tuesday, October 23. Location TBD.

All Access Pass

An All Access pass grants access to all sessions including keynotes and educational sponsored sessions, speaker presentations, the Expo Hall, free WiFi access, refreshment breaks, networking lunches, and parties including the SMX Meet & Greet opening reception and the Expo Hall reception.

Expo+ Pass

Expo+ passes are free if you register online. They will be $49 on-site. This pass will give you access to the Expo Hall, presentations in the SMX Theater, “Plus Sessions” hosted by SMX sponsors, Clinics, and the Expo Hall reception.

When is the last day to register for the conference?


Registration will be open until the conference ends. We recommend you register early to secure your pass and hotel accommodations. The conference hotel fills up quickly.

What forms of payment are accepted and when is the payment due?

The following forms of payment are accepted: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and PayPal. Payment is required to complete your registration.

May more than one person from my company attend?

Absolutely! Bring as many colleagues as you’d like! In fact, we’ve implemented three team ticketing packages at substantial discounts to help you:

Team Registration Procedure:


  • All registrants must be employed by the same company.
  • All members of the team must be registered at the same time. Discounts will not be applied retroactively.
  • You must pre-register to take advantage of these rates, which will not be offered on site.
  • Team Registration Rates rates cannot be combined with any other offers.

Cancellation Policy, Terms & Permission to Email

You may cancel your attendance by notifying our registration department by fax at (203) 702-5389 or email registration@searchmarketingexpo.com by September 10, 2018. Your registration will be refunded less a $100 processing fee. Cancellations after September 10, 2018 are non-refundable.

You may transfer your registration to another person in your company or organization at any time by notifying registration@searchmarketingexpo.com. Reselling SMX registrations is not permitted.

Where should I stay?

The official SMX East conference hotel is the Westin New York at Times Square at 270 West 43rd Street, New York, NY 10036. Register early and take advantage of a special negotiated rate at the Westin New York at Times Square, which also includes complimentary shuttle service to and from the Javits Center. How do I book a room?


During the registration process, you will have the opportunity to secure your accommodations at a special negotiated rate. You may also book your room by calling 1(877) 242-5242. To get the special SMX rate, you must book your accommodations during registration or by calling the number above; the Westin New York at Times Square will not book SMX East guests at this special rate directly.

Is there transportation from the Westin to the Javits Convention Center?

What is the attire?

Business casual.

What is the weather like in New York City in October?

Average high temperature is 65 degrees and the average low is 50 degrees.

Is there a coat/bag check at the Javits?

Coat/bag check is typically located in the North Concourse by SMX registration. Stay tuned for details.

What are the terms and conditions?


SMX is open to business professionals 18 years and over only. Management may request a business card and photo ID prior to admission.

Third Door Media, Inc. reserves the right to make any changes it deems necessary to this program. We will make commercially reasonable efforts to retain speakers and their presentation topics. However, unforeseen circumstances may result in the substitution of a presentation topic or speaker.

Third Door Media, Inc. reserves the right to use photographs of any Search Marketing Expo attendee in promotional materials.

Third Door Media, Inc. assumes no liability for the acts of its suppliers nor for the safety of any Search Marketing Expo participant while traveling to or from this event. The total liability during the hours of the meeting will be limited to a refund of the delegate fee.

Can I record what is presented at SMX East?

Sessions may be audio recorded without special permission for personal use only. They cannot be placed online or transmitted to others without permission.

Sessions may be videoed only with special permission for personal use and also cannot be placed online or transmitted to others. Short audio and video clips may be used for blogging and press coverage of session. As a general guide, non-contiguous clips of one minute or less should be used. Contact us if you need guidance on longer clips.
