When is the event?

SMX Next will take place online, Tuesday, November 15  and Wednesday, November 16.

Those times don’t work for me! Are sessions being recorded?

Yes! In fact, all sessions are pre-recorded and set to debut at scheduled times to prevent technical difficulties.

The only portions of the program that will stream live are Overtime — real-time video Q&A with speakers, Coffee Talks — topic-driven networking discussions, and Ask the winners of the Search Engine Land Awards sessions.

The entire program will be immediately available for viewing on-demand so you can watch when it fits your schedule.

How long will I be able to watch on-demand sessions?

All sessions will be available for viewing on-demand until May 15, 2023.

How do I log into the event?

Click here to log into the event. Logging in will bring you to your My SMX page (more on that below).

How do I watch sessions?

On November 15, each session on the agenda will have its own Watch button. Click this button to begin watching a given session.

If you’re watching live, you will be taken into a virtual lobby until the session is ready to begin. Be sure to watch the video in the lobby for tips to make the most of your SMX experience. You will be automatically taken into the session room at its designated start time. If you’re not redirected, simply refresh the page.

If you’re watching on-demand — or if you join a session after it has begun — you will bypass the lobby and be taken directly into the session room.

Tell me more about the session room… what’s it look like?

Firstly, we doubled the size of the video window to improve the viewing experience.

The video will begin playing automatically once you enter — but if you can’t hear the audio, just click the white overlay to unmute the presentation. Additional volume and screen controls are available in the lower right corner of the video window.

To the right of the video, you’ll find a series of tabs:

  • Dig Deeper — featuring additional training resources, a copy of the presentation, and speaker information.
  • Chat — where you can post questions and engage with fellow attendees.
  • Rate This Session, where you tell us what you think of the presentation. The more ratings you leave, the greater your chance of winning a $100 Amazon gift card or 100 dollars to donate to a charity of your choice.

At the end of SEO and PPC track sessions you can, click the green Overtime button in the Dig Deeper tab to join live Q&A with speakers and moderators. Remember to post your questions in the Chat tab — either during the presentation or during Overtime — for the opportunity to have them answered in real-time.

When you’re ready to select your next session, click the Agenda link at the top of your screen, or access your personalized agenda by clicking the My SMX link.

Do multiple sessions run at the same time? What if I miss something?

Don’t worry! Up to five sessions run concurrently, but all sessions will be immediately available for viewing on-demand.

Can I create a personalized agenda?

Yes! As soon as the program is live, you will be able to create a customized agenda and access it through your My SMX page.

You’ll be able to start watching sessions directly from your personalized agenda when they’re ready to air (or from the main agenda if you prefer). Don’t forget to visit the main agenda to see a complete list of sessions, speakers, and sponsors.

Can I ask the speaker questions during the presentation?

Yes! All session rooms include a Chat tab to the right of the video window where you can enter your questions during the presentation. Remember: Sessions are pre-recorded, so you won’t get an answer immediately — but questions will be answered by speakers live during Overtime, which immediately follows every SEO and PPC track session. You can enter questions into the Chat tab during a presentation or during its respective Overtime — either way works.

Can I get a copy of the speaker’s PowerPoint presentation?

In most cases, yes! Be sure to check out the Dig Deeper tab to the right of the video window to download a PDF version of the presentation (if available) and any other valuable training resources the speakers may offer.

I’m trying to watch a session but it’s not playing… what do I do?

In the unlikely event that the video isn’t working, try these handy troubleshooting tips:

  • Refresh your page; this is often the simplest solution to jumpstarting a video that’s successfully working for everyone else.
  • Ensure that any popup blockers or privacy settings that could prevent a video from playing are disabled.
  • Ensure your browser of choice is up-to-date. If it’s not, install the necessary updates and refresh your page.
  • Ensure that the computer you’re on isn’t behind a company firewall or other technical obstacle that would prevent a video from playing.
  • Sessions will stream in all major browsers, but we tend to find that Chrome users have optimal experiences.

If you find a slide hard to read, we recommend you increase the screen size. To do this, you can either click the Full-Screen button on the video player or try modifying your screen zoom by clicking COMMAND and the (-) key on Mac or CTRL and the (–) key on Windows.

The video is playing but I can’t hear anything… what do I do?

This is also likely due to your browser’s settings. When watching live, click the white overlay volume button to enable audio. Once you do that, you can adjust the volume by hovering over the video embed and using the controls in the bottom right of the window. When watching on-demand, adjust the volume on the bottom right corner of the video player. See below (first and second screenshots show live debut; third screenshot shows on-demand view):

If this does not work, please check the sound preferences on your computer, including the sound output settings. If you’re still experiencing a technical issue, use the Chat tab to reach out to the SMX team for further assistance.

The video is playing but I’m hearing an echo… what do I do?

You likely have two instances of the session open in your browser. Close one to eliminate the echo.

Are transcripts or captions available for presentations?

While we do not currently offer this feature, if you’re using Chrome, you can enable their new caption feature. Click here to learn more about setting this up for your browser.

Do you offer any proof of attendance?

Yes! After you attend the event, you will be able to access a personalized Certificate of Attendance and digital badge on your My SMX page.  Use your certificate to demonstrate your commitment to continued training, beef up your resume, and showcase your involvement with the search marketing community.

Can more than one person from my company attend SMX?
