Derrick Connell

Derrick Connell is the corporate vice president of the Search Program Management team, leading the Bing search program management team and responsible for the overall product feature set design and strategy.

Prior to this position, Connell was the partner group program manager for the Bing User Experience team, where he oversaw the group's program management function, spanning a diverse set of features serving hundreds of millions of Bing customers in more than 70 countries; defining the product experience strategy, design and specification of the experience; and working with marketing to launch and drive adoption and usage of the service.

Connell was instrumental in the launch of the Bing brand in 2009, and has delivered a range of product innovations that helped Bing grow market share in the important U.S. market every month since the launch.

As Bing is entering its next wave of growth, Connell is pioneering new innovation in engineering practices and features to transform Bing into a leading search engine that will deliver on the company's long-range plan of reorganizing the Web around tasks.

Connell began his career with Microsoft in 1992 as an application developer in the Microsoft Ireland office. He has held a succession of engineering and marketing positions including group program manager for MSN Europe based in London, general manager of Bing Marketing, and partner group program manager for the Bing User Experience Team. Prior to working with Microsoft, Connell spent three years working on the London Stock Exchange as a C programmer. Connell is a graduate of the University of Ulster computer science program.

Connell enjoys spending time with his wife and son and has an active outdoors lifestyle pursuing snowboarding and mountain biking and all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
